A lovely patient ride by Melissa Julius enabled Sea Princess to register her second career win at Casterton on Sunday.
The 4YO daughter of Sebring had been knocking on the door after back-to-back synthetic second placings at her previous two starts.
A return to turf and more importantly back to 0-58 grade seen for her start favourite and put the field away by over three lengths.
From a middle barrier, Julius was able to track the speed and despite being cluttered among runners, travelled strongly into the race before the home turn.
With the knowledge that runners can fan and lose momentum around the tight home bend, Julius held her up, tracking two to three horses off the fence waiting for the gap to open.
When it did, she quickly put the race beyond doubt, careering away from her opposition.
A little shy at the expansive Casterton winning post did little to reduce a widening winning margin.
Earlier in her career when trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman, doubts were raised about her ability on rain-affected tracks, but this win on the Heavy8 surface dispelled that theory.
Matthew Williams and his team have done a great job with the mare, a win and three second placings from five starts testament to that.
A beautifully bred product of the 2019 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the next challenge for the team is to get a city win on her resume for life as a broodmare.
Trying to tick off that city success, Williams has picked out a BM62 for fillies and mares at Morphettville on July 16th.
Congratulations to her owners Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock Pty Ltd, S Wagner, Ms NA Dean, Mrs SV Favre, CJ Favre, PJ Gallivan, Mrs KL Dunstan, DJ Dunstan.
