Andrew Bobbin Bio – Trainer

Growing up with racehorses in county NSW, Andrew always intended on having a career in racing although it took a little longer to come about than he first thought. For five years after finishing high school, Andrew mixed working in television production with playing Rugby League, which led to an appearance in the NRL with St George Illawarra. Following this, television became his career focus taking him in London where he worked for the international broadcaster CNN for ten years. Assignments took him to almost 50 countries, from Iraq during the war to the hills of Hollywood.

The lifelong urge to be a racehorse trainer drove Andrew back to Australia to find a mentor, and who better than the first lady of racing, Gai Waterhouse. After taking in as much as he could in his time at Randwick, Andrew landed the position of Assistant Trainer to Matt Cumani in Ballarat. For almost five years Andrew played the role of right-hand man to Matt Cumani, who is on track to become one of the brightest stars in Victoria’s training ranks.
