Patience for both trainer and owners was finally rewarded when Shine And Dandy was a commanding three length winner in the Jarrod Arentz Electrical & Solar Solutions Maiden Plate over 2400m at last weekend’s three day Swan Hill carnival.
Following a stable move from Danny O’Brien to Andrew Bobbin’s stables near Stawell, the son of Dandino has continued to improve albeit after a shaky start to this current preparation.
Four recent consecutive placings has shown consistency, but luck hasn’t always played its part, especially race tempos.
His recent second at Geelong was marred by another slow tempo, convincing Bobbin a six day back-up into Swan Hill was the way to go.
Once again the speed was slow as Jack Hill settled back in the field.
But despite the lack of tempo, Hill was able to ease to the outside and use the expanses of the big Swan Hill straight to his advantage.
Quickly he reeled in the leaders to run away with a commanding victory at his thirteenth career start.
Both Hill and Bobbin believe the gelding will continue to improve, and with his rating still only 58, he can win again very soon at that 0-58 level.
The talk he could handle the distances of the Jericho or the consolation, along with a potential hurdle career down the track is a long way from where he was as a racehorse earlier this year.
For Bobbin the win was well deserved and obviously a relief, fifteen previous race starts combined with both Shine And Dandy and Street Baby had netted eight placings, including six seconds.
And finally, a massive congratulations to our owners, Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Brittain Racing, OF Kelly, DJ Morris, V Ristevski, TC Racing, KP Wilson, Mrs VE Moore, Mrs SV Favre, CJ Favre, MJ Hall, PO Kelly, M Bailey.
An $8400 VOBIS bonus added some cream to the winning prizemoney of $13750.
