ATB Racehorse Syndications System
Our Business is based on our racehorse syndications system which involves selling racehorse shares and forming racing syndicates in quality racehorses that we have hand picked as prospective performers.
We want to ensure that you have a rewarding and enjoyable experience with us throughout your racehorse’s career.
Racehorse shares and syndications
We advertise all of our horses in 5% or 10% shares, however smaller horse racing shares are often available, where smaller shareholders can participate in a small racing syndicate through our operation or with friends. You may purchase a 10% interest and involve 10 friends for 1% each and form your own syndicate – we provide all the guidance and paperwork to assist you in this process. Racing Victoria register horse racing syndicates for $275.
ATB retain one share in every horse they offer thus standing behind our product and judgement and managing the racing partnership with you and the trainer.
We have implemented with the approval of Racing Victoria, a Co-Owners Deed to help protect yourself as an owner. It outlines your rights, especially when we come to certain decisions that need to be voted on during your horses career.
Training our horses
We leave the training strategy to our team of dedicated and professional trainers who are all high achievers and specialists in their fields. If a key decision has to be made such as contesting an interstate race, paying a large entry fee, gelding or retiring, all owners will be consulted and a decision is reached based on the majority view.
Racehorse insurance
Owners have the option to insure their outlay with our insurers. Insurance covers your purchase outlay (net of GST) against death, not injury. We arrange this with the insurers who specialise in the equine field. All insurance policies run for a 12 month period. Generally rates are less than 5% of the purchase price.
After sales service
After making your purchase, ATB works with each of their trainers to provide you with all the relevant and timely information on the progress of your horse to ensure that you are keep up to date on the progress.
Once the horse has been purchased from the sale they are generally put out into the paddock to relax after the sales preparation. They will have a month or six weeks off and then head to the breakers. This process takes around two months and after that they will head to their selected trainer for 10 – 12 days to have a look around and complete their education process. They will then be spelled for up to eight weeks and then they are back to the trainers to see which ones have early speed and ability for the 2-year-old races or which ones need to be saved for the 3-year-old races.
Horse progress communication
ATB will email you with regular progress reports, trainer interviews and barrier jumpouts onto the website, this information is for owners only and is sent via email or to your mobile phone.
When your horse is in work, communication will also be sent to you from the selected trainer. Such information will include nominations, acceptances, and pre and post race reports.
You are also welcome to contact the trainers direct for an update.
Want to pay your racehorse a visit?
Owners can visit their horses at the spelling farm or the trainer’s stables at any time by making an appointment. You can see them in their box and give them a pat or a carrot, watch them work early in the morning or attend jumpouts and trials.
We also hold regular open days with our trainers at their complexes and at race courses which are advertised on our website and newsletter, which allow you to see your horse and to get to know us and your trainer.
Naming your racehorse
All owners are invited to submit a name for their new purchase when they complete the registration papers for the horse, 10 names are drawn and submitted to the Registrar of Racehorses for registration.
Race day
Once your horse is officially named, we will advise you that you can apply for your (Victorian) Owners Gold Card. The Owners card allows you free entry to the races when your horse is racing and has benefits including a free race book and drink voucher – click here to register your owners card.
On special days, we book luncheon tables for the owners to share in a memorable day together.
Accounts
All accounts are sent to the registered owners or racing syndicate manager from the trainer, vet or spelling farm monthly.
Prize money distribution
All prize money is transferred by the appropriate racing body (RVL, STC etc) to each individual owner or syndicate in the horse. ATB does not charge any management fees to our owners for ongoing services.
Race replays and winning photos
Racehorse winning photos can be ordered directly by googling Racing Photos. An owners email is also sent which directs you to this platform. There is a large gallery available for winning horses and you can pick which photos you love and have them sent direct.
ATB arrange race replay DVDs for all owners.
