East Star shines for ATB and her patient owners with exciting Hamilton win

Oct 27, 2013

It didn’t take very long for smart Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock mare East Star to repay her patient owners when she resumed from a ten month enforced spell with a most impressive victory at Hamilton yesterday.

Ridden by in form hoop Dean Yendall, the daughter of Dehere was always in the firing line and responded strongly to Yendall’s urgings in the straight before going on to score a resolute 1/2 neck victory over the Jarrod McLean trained I Am In Command.

Blessed with plenty of ability, the four-year-old was sent to the races in outstanding condition by trainer Matthew Williams and his hard working team at Warrnambool.

East Star was having her first outing since January where she was found to have a chip in her knee following a below par run at Werribee.

An operation was required before she could race again and after successful surgery at the Ballarat Veterinary Practice and a good spell at ATB’s Manningtree Park property near Ballan, the daughter of Dehere came back into work in July.

She made it two wins from just five career starts with her strong win in the Sinclair Wilson BM64 Handicap (1100m).

Matty Williams was happy to produce East Star a winner for her owners after so long away from the track.

She is now unbeaten fresh and it really seems to suit her,” Williams said.

Dean gave her a lovely run in the race and to my surprise she handled the heavy track quite well.”

I’m very happy for her owners, who have been very patient, and there is a nice race for her at Werribee next month.”

Matty has been very patient with the mare, utilising the Warrnambool beach to assist in her early preparation, and much of the credit to East Star’s win has been due to the patience of Williams.

Among East Star’s grateful owners are Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock’s Darren & Liz Dance, SCG Racing, Mr A Fitzgerald, Mr G Gereaux, Brittain Racing, Mr R Matthey, East Warrnambool Racing, Mr J Blizzard, Mr P Mcclymans, Mr S Doring, Mr S Atkins, Mr B Johnson, Mr A Talbot & Mr G Carroll.

East Star has more wins in store judging by the manner in which she won yesterday!
