Can Platelet become the Million Dollar Mare at Moonee Valley?
Sep 13, 2013
Classy Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock mare Platelet can take her prizemoney earnings above the $1Million dollar mark with victory in the McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley tomorrow.
The dual Group 1 winner galloper had a very successful autumn campaign in Adelaide for ATB and trainer Darren Weir, taking out the Sangster Stakes (1200m) and Goodwood (1200m) double at Morphettville, boosting her prizemoney to $946,475 in earnings from 19 career starts, including 7 wins and 10 placings.
Now a valuable broodmare for her owners, Platelet makes her long awaited return in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley, which is Race 5 on the card at 2.50pm, and once again she will be partnered by jockey Ben Melham and led out by favourite strapper Stevie Payne.
The 4yo has a great each way chance in the McEwen Stakes according to her trainer but race favourite Moment Of Change is clearly the one to beat on his outstanding fresh form.
She will improve on whatever she does tomorrow and her spring goal is the $1,000,000 Group 1 Patinack Classic at Flemington in November.
ATB’s Matthew Williams trained Ticket To Toorak also goes around tomorrow at Moonee Valley in Race 2 on the program at 12.55pm and looks a great each-way chance in what looks a particularly tough race on paper.
Ben Melham will ride the Northern Meteor three-year-old and from barrier three should be in the firing line all the way.
The 1500 metre trips looks ideal for Ticket To Toorak at this stage of his preparation and we expect him to figure in the finish.
Our international stayer Tac De Boistron is set to have his second start for Marco Botti in the UK when he tackles the listed Stella Artois Stand Cup at Chester on Saturday night around 11.55pm AEST Melbourne time.
Marco is very happy with how the horse is coming along and expects him to figure in the finish.
