SPEED TO EXCEL - Midnight Hussy

Feb 28, 2022

Yarra Valley races on Saturday was a timely reminder for some that the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for 2022 is well under way.

Midnight Hussy, a runaway winner in the 1000m Verum Built Maiden Plate was purchased by trainer Clinton McDonald at the 2020 sale for $350,000.

A 3YO daughter of Exceed And Excel (x Swanne), the Esker Lodge product has always shown good ability and a high cruising speed.

The trick for McDonald was to harness that speed and seemingly he is on track to do so.

After two initial runs at her only race preparation last year, the filly was spelled before her terrific return to the race track on the weekend.

Flying the gates, she led comfortably and cruised to the post under the guidance of regular track rider Rose Pearson.

Pearson understands the filly well, and that showed up with a comfortable three length win in the good time of 57.47 seconds.

Hopefully with more maturity, she can continue to pay dividends for her owners, including the breeders who stayed in to race the filly.

Congratulations to owners D Romanelli, BEG Arnhold, RW Fenwick, M Logiudice, George St Partners, Esker Lodge Australia, AR Milligan, DR Wagner, TA Hartley, WF Johnstone, TR Martin, BA Sayers & D Beech.

McDonald's eye for Esker Lodge bred yearlings showed up on day one of this year's sale when he purchased LOT 120, our outstanding Camelot colt (x Mrs Bannock) for $380,000.

Another fantastic result for our breeders, and with nine lots altogether at the sale, hopefully the good results continue to come our way.

A more detailed report with all sales results will come after the hammer drops on our last yearling on Tuesday.

HOMEBRED SHARES AVAILABLE:

Shares are still available in our homebred Crackerjack King colt that will be trained by the red-hot stable of Tom Dabernig.

Dabernig has been winning races at a strike rate around 30% since going alone at his new Warrnambool base.

Adding to that winning tally was Flying Mascot on Blue Diamond Day, leading all the way to win the Group 3 Catanach's Jewellers Mannerism Stakes over 1400m.
