Slow start, fast finish for 'Foxy'
Mar 11, 2020
Despite blundering the start, the Mitch Freedman trained 5YO mare, Here De Fox still proved far too good for her rivals in the RMBL Investments Rising Stars Race - CUB BM58 over 1200m at Kilmore yesterday.
With young gun apprentice, Will Price in the saddle, pre-race plans went out the window when she was slowly away and settling last.
Price remained patient, allowing the mare to find her feet before slowly taking runs mid-race.
Approaching the home turn, the pair were still looking for runs and needing plenty of luck.
Tearaway leader, Cielo Stellato was still three lengths clear on straightening, but the pack was closing including Here De Fox.
Price's decision to cut back across the leading pack to the rail proved decisive in the narrow but strong victory.
It was a decision that proved popular with punters who backed the mare in from as much as $3.20 into start a warm $2.20 favourite.
A winner of two races and five placings from only eleven starts, the winner of just over $65,000 will now be given a chance in the metropolitan area.
Mitch Freedman and his team have done a fantastic job since she transferred over from Darren Weir early in 2019.
