Abbasso Sits And Sprints To The Winning Post

Apr 09, 2014

Abbasso went to Warwick Farm on April 9th to try and break his maiden status and he did it! Abbasso started favourite at a short $2.20.

The Hylands Race Colours Maiden Plate, a set weights for three-year-olds, was ran over 1300m and was worth $40,000 with a $10,000 BOBS bonus. Abbasso drew gate seven with Nash Rawiller on board carrying 57kgs.

Abbasso jumped away cleanly and Nash eased him to the tail of the field. The Encosta De Lago gelding relaxed beautifully and bowled around like it was trackwork. With the field racing three wide from the fence, coming around the bend, Abbasso eased out seven wide and began to quicken. At the 300m mark the gelding quickly gathered up the field and went to the lead and went on to win by 1.5 lengths.

After the race Nash said "he travelled beautiful today, I think he'll be better when he gets over further, perhaps a mile. At his top he was probably not that comfortable in the ground, but he got into a nice rhythm and got through it quite well." When asked of his thoughts on the horse and his future, Nash didn't hold back and said "he might make for The Epsom in Spring, aim there and then work your way down!"

ATB would like to congratulate fellow owners Brian Bradley, David Campagnaro, Steve Falconer, SCG Syndicate, Brad Hogg, Mick Rochow, Damien Shaw, Ian Wellwood, Peter Walsh Pty Ltd and Jodianka Pty Ltd.
