Blake Shinn - "This horse has an engine"

Aug 14, 2016

Star jockey, Blake Shinn was quick to hit Twitter after We're Sure stormed home to win the BM78 Mounties Group Handicap over 1350m at Rosehill Gardens yesterday.

Following on from other complimentary comments, Shinn joined in the chorus with "This horse has an engine" as he congratulated trainers Peter & Paul Snowden on the win.

It was Shinn's first ride on the Not A Single Doubt gelding and while he was impressed, so was Peter Snowden with the ride.

"Super effort, ridden right for the first time in a while, got it right yesterday, a great result. Big effort by the horse to win as well as he did, albeit a slender margin, but the effort was enormous.

Now that we have a rider riding him well, hopefully Blake can stick with him." Snowden told his ATB owners.

During his short career, the horse has proven to be a difficult horse to ride, luck playing a big part in his races.

His record of four wins from ten starts with no minor placings highlighting the 'boom or bust' fact - bad luck and some poor riding decisions costing the 4YO from having an even better record.

Shinn was the fourth individual jockey to win on the horse with Tommy Berry, Winona Costin and Nick Heywood all having won on him in similar style to yesterday.

A 2014 Magic Millions buy for $120,000, yesterday's first prize of $48,750 took his earnings past that purchase price to $164,600.

The next target for We're Sure is a 1400m BM85 at Randwick on September 3rd.

Congratulations to his owners Scott Bingley, Carlos Cid, Albert Cid, Ben Cleary, Ben Clifford, Craig Collie, Kurt Dalton, Glenn Duncan, Gareth Dunne, Bradley Hogg, Brian Johnson, Sam Lord, Gavin Maher, John Ogle, Peter Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Lee Roberts, Francis Sarks, Phill Brittain and Owen Kelly - the journey has hopefully only began.

In what is now turning out to be a great decision to engage into a well-bred family, some of We're Sure's owners are also having fun with his 5YO sister Rockolicious (Fastnet Rock). Now with Darren Weir after transferring down from Chris Waller's Sydney stables the mare also has an impressive record with four wins and $167,970.

Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock purchased the mother Rock Diva for $45,000 in 2014 and that decision is also looking to be a great business decision.

Rock Diva currently has a 2YO by Wanted (Wanted Diva) in work and after slipping a foal by Pierro last season is back in foal to him again this season.
